August 5, 2011. A new iPhone application for Fr John
Bartunek’s bestselling book of meditations, The Better Part: A Christ-centered
Resource for Personal Prayer has made it that much easier
to fit in a daily time of prayer and reflection
on the Gospel.
Since the original book of meditations has
over 1,000 pages, the application offers a practical way to
stay plugged into prayer without having to carry the book
around every day.
Sold by Catholic Spiritual Direction for
$0.99 through the Apple Store, the application gives users the
option of going through each meditation of the book sequentially
or according to the daily Mass readings.
The Better Part
offers substantial, readable, and practical reflections on Gospel passages from
each of the four Gospels. Each reflection is subdivided into
four parts: Christ the Lord, Christ the Teacher, Christ the
Friend, and Christ in My Life. The “Christ the Lord”
sections focus on Christ as a model of how our
will and attitudes should be, with practical guidance for action
and behavior, while the “Christ the Teacher” segment offers theological
teachings based on the Gospel passage. The “Christ the Friend”
section gives a more affective, intimate view of Christ as
a friend, and the “Christ in My Life” section offers
a personal dialogue with the Lord.
With its combination of theological
richness, accessibility, and practicality, The Better Part has been a
favorite resource for thousands of readers. For those who prefer
a more traditional approach, the book can be found on
Amazon, and is also available in Kindle format.
