January 12, 2007 will long be remembered as the date of the “Virtue Card Event” that almost didn’t occur. Organizers of the event received word that there were several illnesses in the family of the hostess, Colleen Beddor. After a few prayers to St. Anthony and some frantic phone calls, Kim Gibas “volunteered” to take over duties and host the event. Thank you Kim for your flexibility and generosity!

It is a tradition among Regnum Christi members in the States to hold an Epiphany party, which the Minneapolis Women’s Section has done for several years now. This party has been nicknamed

the “Virtue Card Event” -- an event that is famous for guaranteeing a good time and a strong message from the Holy Spirit. Each member chooses a virtue card that contains a patron saint for the year, a quote from our spirituality, and a virtue that the Holy Spirit wants you to focus on in the upcoming year. After randomly choosing a card, the lady reads her virtue aloud for all to hear.

Entertainment was provided by the Team Leaders. After a week of brainstorming, the team settled on an Epiphany skit that Anna Maria Jude had previously used in a homeschool play. Anna Maria brought a box of various costumes, and the players had fun choosing just the right pieces to create their character’s costume. King Herod was adorned with a Soviet-era hat and used a pink, glowing crosier; the King’s Courtier donned a ‘60s hippie cape; and

the 3 Kings got to wear real king outfits, borrowed from the Cedarcrest Christmas pageant.

After a multitude of great food and several solemn toasts, the ladies called it a night and went directly home to pull out their dictionaries and find out the exact meaning of the words militant and generous.
