Lima, August 19, 2008. For over a decade, the Regnum
Christi Movement has been taking its first steps and growing
stronger in Peru.
In 1998, the first Regnum
Christi section was founded in the capital city of Lima
with a group of women led by Fr Donal O’Keeffe,
LC, who traveled from Chile to support the foundation. The
team leader was Mrs Pepi Ojeda, who played an important
role in this foundation. Today, Fr Donal continues traveling regularly
to Lima. The Regnum Christi women from Chile have also
given great support to the foundation in Lima.
In
the following years, the number of women increased and they
began formalizing the section’s apostolic work.
Apostolates Peru
now has the following apostolates: - ANSPAC: This was the
first apostolate started in Lima. It currently has six units
in Chincha, Manchay, Musa, and Punta Hermosa. The program gives
formation to about 180 women.
- Pilgrim Queen of the Family
started in 2004. It is in operation among both Regnum
Christi teams and groups that are not part of the
Movement.
- Mission Youth: During June of 2008, the first mission
was held in Punta Hermosa.
- ECYD girls and young
women: in 2007, Carmen Coll, of Mission Network in
Chile, visited Peru. On that occasion, the Regnum Christi women
organized a meeting with their daughters. During the meeting, Carmen
presented Club Giro and proposed to found it there. A
few weeks went by and they had gathered girls from
three schools. They organized some evangelization missions and started up
an apostolate for charitable service.
In May of 2008, the Regnum
Christi consecrated woman, Delfina Trossero, gave some talks on
spirituality and methodology to the young women who were already
team leaders for Club Giro, and they were excited to

start the young women’s section in Lima. Afterwards, they decided
to join the Movement in an incorporation ceremony during a
Mass presided over by Fr Donal O’Keeffe, LC. One of
the young women said: “I just realized that God gave
me a great mission: I’m called to help found the
Movement in Peru. I can’t stop thanking God.”
