The Legion took its first steps in the United Kingdom in 1990, when a few Legionaries from the community in Rome were invited for a visit by some families. The purpose of these first visits was to introduce the work and spirituality of the congregation.

From 1993 to 1995, a Legionary priest and a religious were invited to help support the ongoing ministry of the parish of St James at Spanish Place, London.

From 1997 onward, Legionary priests from the Dublin community made periodic visits to London, offering members retreats, marriage renewals, spiritual and pastoral formation and direction.

With this training in hand, the Regnum Christi members became more involved on the ground in ministries within their local parishes and communities. In the late 1990s, Regnum Christi members launched a temporary ministry to network with young professionals by offering a spirit of community, conferences on current themes, etc. In the early 2000s, they started K4J (Kids for Jesus) in a number of parishes with a network of families interested in forming virtue in their children.

Several years ago, the Pilgrim Queen of the Family apostolate came to the United Kingdom, helping families to draw closer to Jesus and Mary by praying the Rosary together.

There are RC members in a few parts of the country, but all activities are centralised in London. The priest responsible is Fr Matthew Brackett LC mbrackett@legionaries.org, based in Rome, Italy. He is helped by Fr. Javier Oseguera, LC fjoseguera@arcol.org, also based in Rome.

Fr. Matthew Brackett LC, was ordained in 2002 and is a native of Massachusetts, USA. Fr Matthew holds Bachelor´s degrees in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome and a Post Graduate degree in Family, Counselling and Education from Universidad de Los Andes, Santiago, Chile. He has broad experience in the fields of religious and priestly formation as well as spiritual and marriage counselling. He has ministered in Colombia, Ireland and Chile and is currently studying a Masters degree in Spiritual Theology in Rome.

Fr. Javier Oseguera LC, was ordained in 2004, hails from Tijuana, Mexico. Fr Javier has a degree in Chemical and Systems Engineering from the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey and worked for 2 years as an Environmental Engineer Consultant for a U.S. Company based in México. Feeling the calling to priesthood, he joined the Legion of Christ and received a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome. As a priest he has extensive experience, working with youth and young married couples, including the direction of Regnum Christi youth groups as well as teaching religion to Secondary School students. In addition, he acted as General Manager of the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria while based in Madrid, Spain. Fr. Javier currently works in the Legion of Christ’s Centre of Formation in Rome, Italy, helping seminarians in the final steps to priesthood.
