March 13, 2009. Seoul, South Korea. This past February 4, six women from Seoul, South Korea made history by forming the first Regnum Christi team in their country.

The first team of Legionary priests arrived to South Korea in June of 2006. Cardinal Nicholas Cheong-Jin-Suk welcomed them, along with Bishop Hwang, who in charge of religious congregations and institutes of consecrated life in the Seoul diocese. Since then, the Legionaries’ main mission has been to support the local pastors by helping celebrate Masses and by administering the sacraments.

Along the way, they have gotten to know local parishioners who were searching for a deeper commitment to their faith, and who felt attracted to the charism of Regnum Christi. There are several groups of men and women who are currently learning more about the Movement, so this was the first team of many more to come.

The six new Regnum Christi members will continue supporting parish life with apostolic work inspired by the Movement’s Christ-centered spirituality. They will also carry out an important work of witness, since only 10% of South Korea’s population is Catholic.

Regnum Christi is currently present in 37 countries around the globe, including South Korea.
