New
Orleans, Louisiana -- Choosing Marian Feast days as delivery dates,
the organizers of the America Code Blue group have
made two historic treks to the main post office in
New Orleans.
The first batch of letters was mailed to the
US Congress and US Senate at approximately 11:00 am Sept.
8, 2012, the feast of the Nativity of Mary, and
the second was mailed on the feast of Our Lady
of Sorrows, Sept. 15, 2012.
“So far,
we have mailed 20,000 signed, sealed and stamped letters,” said
one of the America Code Blue organizers, Sally Steger. “And
we ordered 10,000 more. We are predicting that we will
mail about 40,000 to 50,000 letters by the election from
New Orleans area alone. Almost all of our
105 area parishes have participated.”
Sally said
that before their delivery “convoy” departed the first day, the
group prayed together and had a small birthday party for
the Blessed Mother.
“These letters were our
gift to her,” she said. “We asked her to guide
the entire project and to continue to protect our country
and to ensure our religious liberties. Mary is driving this
project.”
America Code Blue is made up
of a group of Regnum Christi women in Louisiana who
are organizing the initiative to generate a steady flow of
letters in blue envelopes, expressing opposition to the HHS mandate. The women hope this effort will help reverse
the decision by the US Department of Health and Human
Service to mandate that all residents and businesses, regardless of
their religious beliefs, fund health insurance that includes coverage for
contraception and abortifacient drugs. Their efforts have been supported by
the New Orleans Archbishop and involve parishes, schools, and other
Christian churches in Louisiana.
Sally said the
initiative is also spreading across the country.
“We are pleased to announce that this whole effort is
taking off,” she said. “It is posted on many protestant
and catholic links on the Internet and it is also
posted on a few Senators and Congresswomen´s websites. We also
have lots of Facebook and Twitter activity.
“We know of efforts in New Jersey, Texas, Mississippi, Florida,
Chicago, Virginia, Nebraska, California and Idaho. You can
Google ‘Blue Envelope Campaign’ to see all the buzz.
“Also, one of my associates, Lauren Lagarde, and
I have been interviewed on the radio about the project,
and we have been invited to give a talk at
a rally in Chicago in October. Please pray
for us....that maybe some hearts will be opened!”
Sally and the other members of America Code Blue
extend their thanks to all who have participated so far. “Keep sending in your blue envelopes!” she said.
She and her associates intend to make
many more deliveries before the election. Go to www.americacodeblue.com
