My name is Barb Villano, representing the California/Nevada Regnum Christi members. I became a Catholic 28 years ago when I married my wonderful husband Lou. I am thankful every day to God for this blessing. RC has been without a doubt an integral part of my growth as a Catholic.
My faith journey really took off when I came into contact with RC women in a Familia group in Minneapolis. These women were faith filled, charitable, and kind, and I wanted to be like them. I felt as if God had blessed me with a new family, which was important to me as our family lived back east. The unique expression of Regnum Christi, which I experienced living in 2 different cities in the last 5 years, has been a beautiful gift, and it taught me to be more open to the Holy Spirit working in my life.
Living life as an RC member is filled with daily challenges, blessings and joys. I have discovered that God loves me too much to leave me where I am comfortable for too long. He always desires something better for me, especially when it does not seem like it at the time. You see, in May 2013 our beautiful 22 year old daughter died of suicide. As our world collapsed, God seemed far away, and suffering and darkness surrounded us; my RC family reached out to us from across the country, helping us to carry this heavy cross.
I have experienced Christ’s loving presence and the mercy of God in a new and deeper way in this cross and am learning to trust God to listen and wait upon Him, and to be a joyful and more grateful woman as He leads me along the path of growing in these circumstances.
Be assured of my prayers for each of you as we continue to approach our time together in Chicago and the monumental work we face there.
I am reminded of the words of St. Paul to the Romans 2:8. “ We know all things work for good for those who love God and are called to His purpose.”
