New Children’s Book Introduces Kids to Mother Teresa, and her Life of Love

mother-teresa-a-life-of-loveFollowing on the success of their first book, Francis, the Pope for Kids, John and Marieta Monette have just released another wonderful read. Mother Teresa, a Life of Love introduces readers to this beloved and newly canonized saint, showing them that holiness is possible for everyone.

Following little Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu from her childhood home in eastern Europe until she became Mother Teresa of Calcutta, children can explore the ways she followed God’s call in her life with courage and love. The book is set up for conversation between children and parents or educators, with questions along the way to provoke discussion and understanding.

john-and-mary-monetteJohn Monette, who works at the Legionaries of Christ novitiate in Cheshire Connecticut, said the book teaches a simple formula for holiness, prayer and service, which he and his wife practice with their own three sons. “Mother Teresa grew up on daily Mass, time with Jesus, and on serving others with her mom. … She continually lived in Jesus’ presence.” John and his wife Marieta put first put their love of their faith, writing and illustration to work in children’s books with Francis, the Pope for Kids, which is a 2016 finalist in the Association of Catholic Publishers Excellence in Publishing Awards.

In an endorsement published on the Liguori press website, Laura Kizior (Content Developer, Culture of Life Studies Program, American Life League) says “We were charmed by Mother Teresa: A Life of Love, and are using it as the lesson text for “Do Small Things with Great Love: St. Teresa of Calcutta,” a lesson plan for kindergarten through second grade. The book helps students explore the life of St. Teresa, her work among the poorest of the poor, her founding of the Missionaries of Charity, and her love for God and neighbor. We can easily use St. Teresa’s life and beauty to teach children to respect human beings from the first moment of creation forward.”

The 64 page, fully illustrated paperback book is available through Liguori Press.
